At 109-years-old Richard Arvine Overton is the oldest verified surviving American World War II veteran. Overton was born on May 11, 1906 in Texas, that is, let’s see… 6 years before the sinking of the Titanic, eight years before the beginning of The Great War, and 35 years before the Pearl Harbor attack.
This American centenarian has lived through it all (the roaring twenties, the Civil Rights movement, Desert Storm, 9/11, and everything else in between) and has hung out with presidents, senators, congressmen, and celebrities through the years.

But now, in his old age, Overton credits his health and long life to drinking whiskey, smoking cigars, and eating ice cream every night! Definitely not what the doctor prescribed but I’m certain we’re all happy this Texas hero is still up and about and still manages to keep as active as possible.
